My name is Kyra Whelan and I am the Year 2/3 teacher in Room 19 this year. This is my fifth year teaching at North Kalgoorlie Primary School and I hope to be teaching here for many years to come.
I have lived in Kalgoorlie for 9 years and have 2 children who are both attending high school.
I am certain we will have a great year and I look forward to establishing a positive working partnership with both yourself and your child.

Angles, Angles, Angles
Kangaroos and Sea Turtles
We have been learning all about different camera angles this term. We made a piece of art showing long shots, close up shots, mid shots, birds eye view and worms view. We then decided to show these angles using ourselves. Can you work out which shot we used for each picture?
Vivid Sydney Artwork
All the students were fantastic during Cross Country this year. They all participated and supported their classmates. I would like to congratulate Marley who came first in the Year 3 girls, Caleb who came second in the Year 2 boys, and Ariki who came 4th in the Year 3 boys races.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?
Our first week at school was all about getting to know each other. The students created some amazing self portraits and wrote great acrostic poems about themselves.
In art this week we have been looking at primary and secondary colours and how they make up the colour wheel. We then used this knowledge to create some awesome colour wheels of our own.
Warm and Cool Colours
We have been looking at warm and cool colours in Art this week. We learnt how the colour wheel can be split in half to show the different colours.
3 Pigs Fact Families
In our Maths lessons we have been looking at number fact families using number triangles. These were used to show the students the relationship addition and subtraction for the Year 2's and multiplication and division for the Year 3's.

Big Bad Adjectives
In our Literacy lessons we have been looking at adjectives to improve our writing. We read two versions of The Three Little Pigs and wrote adjectives to describe the Big Bad Wolf.
In our Maths lessons this term we have been learning about numbers and the different ways they can be represented. We then made awesome beanstalks to show the ways we have learnt.
Red Riding Hood Character Profiles
Clocks, Clocks, Clocks
During our Author Study we read different versions of Little Red Riding and also watched the movie Hoodwinked to see the story told from different perspectives. We talked about the characters in the different versions of the story and what characteristics they have. This then lead to producing character profiles on one of the characters in the story.
Room 19 have been working very hard on their ability to tell time to the nearest 15 minutes. To help with our understanding we made some awesome clocks. The Year 2's made alarm clocks while the Year 3's made cuckoo clocks.

Cherry Pop Blossoms
