English
This term in English, we will be focusing on reading comprehension strategies through the use of modelled and shared reading of Big Books. We will also continue our small guided reading groups where students will receive targeted support for their reading level. We will continue to focus on fluency, sight words and tracking while reading. In writing, we will continue to work on sentence structure and parts of speech, including nouns and verbs, with a strong focus on adjectives leading into descriptive writing. Our focus for this term will be towards fiction texts as we learn to create short narratives. We will endeavour to complete daily writing to encourage us to write confidently and independently and work on improving our handwriting. Children will participate in a simple spelling test at the beginning of the term and they will be placed in focus phonics and spelling groups to target their individual needs in this area. Maths In Maths we will continue to explore and build out knowledge of place value of numbers to 100 and practice strategies to help us quickly and confidently solve problems using addition and subtraction. From this we will begin to solve number stories. This term we will learn about directional language and fractions as well as practicing more chance and data. We will also be reviewing topics we already know a bit about such as time, money and number patterns to make sure we have really got a handle on things for year 2. Geography This term in Geography we will be exploring our Earth. Students will be introduced the term constructed, managed and natural. We will be exploring our environment and classifying what we see within our town. Health This term in Health, we will focus on growing and changing through protective behaviours as well as growth mindset lessons. We will explore how we have changed from babies through to toddlers and children and explore what we are going to be able to do as teenagers and adults. |
