Hello and Welcome to Term 3.
We have a lot of extra activities on this term, including our class assembly on the last day of school in Week 10. Further information on this will be sent out closer to the time. All dates are on the term planner sent out in week 1. Below is a summary of the major items affecting us.
Book Week Dress up day: Wednesday August 19th
Sports Carnival: Friday August 28th
Humphrey's Dance: Week 9 W/B Monday 14th Sept
As a class we are reading the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (we started this at the end of Term 2). We read a chapter or two every day after lunch. The kids enjoy this very much and it is exposing them to new language and text types as well as other benefits.
Below is a summary of what we are learning this term.
Literacy:
Spelling- this is targeted at each child's level of ability and is frequently reviewed.
Reading- daily reading instruction focusing on sounding out of words, fluency, comprehension and understanding
Writing- Continuation of recount writing and incorporating more information and understanding of structure, introduction of report writing
Grammar: further consolidation of nouns, verbs and adjectives. Dictation, punctuation and editing.
Phonics- Continuous revision of all sounds with a focus on final sounds, sound deletion and manipulation
Handwriting
Oral Language development
Maths:
Continuation of recognising, modelling, reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100
Addition and Subtraction
3d Shapes
Representing data
Understanding of directions to familiar places
Revision of time and money
Geography:
The world: continents, hemispheres, poles, equator
Features of the world: natural, managed and constructed features of places
